I came across this gem of a poem while watching a science fiction series called 11.22.63. It’s the tv miniseries adaptation of a book by Stephen King about a time-traveller who gets a chance to go back in time and change history.

Although I don’t read Stephen King because I personally find his stories too dark for me, I think this poem has so much meaning in life and spiritually as well.

We did not ask for this room or this music.
We were invited in.

Therefore, because the dark surrounds us,
let us turn our faces to the light.

Let us endure hardship to be grateful for plenty.
We have been given pain to be astounded by joy.
We have been given life to deny death.

We did not ask for this room or this music.
But because we are here, let us dance.
